Go for color - it'll pop the whole room! Bottle glass green, perhaps?! ;-)
My first thought was robin egg blue, distressed look, but in your room it might be better cream, off white with a distressed look. I love that you garbage picked it... so shabby chic. I have been scouring garage sales for a dresser for macie's room to refinish.
